Robin Williams makes Royals laugh at Prince Charles 60th birthday

Robin Williams has turned court jester  - and had the RoyalFamily in stitches - with a triumphant return to the British stage for Prince Charles's 60th birthday comedy show.

The show was entitled We Are Most Amused and it lived up to its name. Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry were seen in hysterics, enjoying the celebration.

In his first major UK appearance for 27 years, Robin wowed an enthusiastic audience at the New Wimbledon Theatre in south London.

He was joined on stage by Rowan Atkinson and John Cleese and Andrew Sachs, reprising their roles as Basil Fawlty and Manuel from appeared the classic BBC comedy Fawlty Towers.

The last time the effervescent Williams made a major appearance on the UK stage, he was still starring as Mork in TV sci-fi sitcom Mork and Mindy.

It was seven years away from his first Oscar nomination for best actor in Good Morning, Vietnam and 17 years ahead of his best supporting actor Oscar win for Good Will Hunting.

Opening the show, he turned to the Royals and quipped: "Wassup Wales? House of Windsor keeping it real!"  On the end of George W Bush's presidency, he said: "He could do stand-up comedy because he has eight years of great material." And on the presidential race he joked: "Obama - Fresh Prince. John McCain - Uncle Fester from The Addams Family."

Rowan Atkinson also delighted, reprising an old favourite - his bumbling vicar delivering a sermon.  The finale of the evening came was ballet performance from an ensemble of dancers eventually revealing Cleese's Monty Python co-star Eric Idle to be among them.

He promptly burst into the song, Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, from Python film Life of Brian - alwasy a perfect outlook on living, I'm sure you fellow Optimists will agree.
