Worlds Biggest Game

Fancy a game, mate? If you do, get your boots out, call your mates and get set to play in the world's biggest game and write your name in the history books.

It is a game in which everyone wins as all the money raised will go to charity. You raise the money and you choose the charity.

The big date is Saturday 6 December 2008 at 11 am, when young and old alike will be invited to participate in the world's biggest synchronised football match by organising their own games wherever they want to play them.

It will be Reds v Blues and the organisers will supply the WBG-crested shirts which players can keep as a memento. There are no rules and no limits on numbers - all you have to do is register with WBG so that you can be included in the World record attempt.

It is a healthy, fun way to actively participate in breaking a new world record. But there will be a further challenge as teams will be asked to raise funds for their own good causes. It is estimated that most teams can raise £1,000 or more each, which they can donate to their own charity, local community project or even their own club.

The World's Biggest Game (WBG) is supported by a range of agencies including West Mercia Police, Football in the Community and established charities such as Air Ambulance, Age Concern, the Noah's Ark Trust and dozens of local community projects including school and junior football clubs around the country.

The winning team overall (Reds or Blues), will be decided by adding together the cumulative scores from all the games staged and will win the West Bromwich Building Society Community Cup - which will be hoisted aloft by the team captain at a special centrepiece match.

Andrew Barnett, who will co-ordinator of the World Biggest Game, said: "This is a fun and healthy way to actively participate in setting a new world record and for players to raise funds for their own choice of charities, community projects and clubs."

The World's Biggest Game's sporting ambassador is former England and West Bromwich Albion centre forward Cyrille Regis MBE.

"Everyone wins with the World's Biggest Game. It is a simple concept but a brilliant idea," said Regis. "I would urge everyone to get involved in order to have fun breaking a new world record and to raise money that can make a real difference to their communities."
