Flood tragedy in Bangladesh captured by documentary photographer, Munem Wasif, is one of the entries

“Can a photograph help sustain the planet? It depends on the photograph.” These are bold words splashed on Prix Pictet homepage – the world’s premier photographic award in sustainability.

It will reward photographers and the images they use to tell stories of urgent global significance.

For 2008 the theme is water, the vector of climate change. By 2010 an estimated 40 per cent of the world's poorest people will lack access to clean water. Two hundred million may be physically or economically displaced.

Nobel Laureate and Former Secretary General of the United Nations Kofi Annan is the Honorary President of the Prix Pictet.
