She showed inspiring bravery and has won the respect and praise of detectives for the common sense way she dealt with her rape ordeal.
Extraordinarily, the New Zealand woman in this story drove her attacker to a police station when he fell asleep in his car after the assault.
The 22-year-old attacker has been found guilty of abduction and two charges of rape by the Auckland District Court. He met the woman at a bar in Auckland bar and drove her to a park where he raped her in the back seat of his car.
After the attack he allowed her to drive, but fell asleep in the passenger seat. So with incredible presence of mind the woman drove him to Auckland Central police station where he was arrested.
Her local police force has paid tribute to her remarkable actions in making the best of an appalling situation. "She showed a lot of bravery and common sense. I have nothing but respect for what she has endured," said police detective Simon Welsh.
It's an encouraging tale for anyone who's ever been unlucky to be a victim of crime, but proof positive too of the power of human resourcefulness to win through, even when the odds seem stacked against you.
