Kenyan babies named after Barrack Obama
A new generation of babies won't ever be able to forget Barack Obama's historic achievement in becoming the first black U.S.President.
Mothers in Kenya are marking his inspiring election win by naming their newborns after him and his wife. The President-elect won over voters across America - and it seems he's winning over happy and optimistic Kenyan parents, delighted by his success.
More than half of the babies born in a Kisumu Hospital on the day after the election were reportedly named either Barack or Michelle Obama.
Maybe we shouldn't be too surprised by this unusual tribute. Kisumu is close to the village where Mr Obama's father was born and raised.
The region was shown erupting in celebration after the Democrat candidate won his place in the White House. Out of 15 babies born in the New Nyanza Provincial Hospital in the western city of Kisumu on Wednesday, five boys were named Barack Obama and three girls were called Michelle.
Some of the proud parents said they admired the couple and hoped that their children would be inspired to reach for great heights by sharing the names.
